BAIA DE ARAMA
The Intercounty Town
Baia de Arama is a town in the North of the county, located on the highest terrace of the Mehedinti Plateau, at equal distance from Drobeta Turnu Severin, Targu Jiu and Baile Herculane.
Baia de Arama is an old settlement, called Chalchis (copper) during the Roman times when mines of copper were opened.
A bit isolated during the communism regime, Baia de Arama has preserved its traditions which, combined with the individual initiatives during the recent years, could enhance the personality of the place. The "Constantin Brancoveanu" High School, the Hall of Culture, the Library and the Folk Dance Team "Liliacul" offer education and a cultural environment to the 5 900 citizens of this town.
The place provides a great potential through the famous tourist routes in the region:
