CERAMICS
Sisesti Village is the famous ceramic capital of Mehedinti. The beauty and quality of the local pottery made it a veritable brand of this area, attracting connoisseurs and amateurs alike. Lumps of fine moist clay, thrown on the potter's wheel by local artisans, emerge as gracious ceramic pieces testifying the craftsmanship and inspiration of the potters. Traditionally Sisesti ceramic is not glazed but nowadays glazing is also utilized. The custom decoration with a specific 'tree-like' motif, wavy lines, spirals, and patterns of triangles, is done entirely by hand, with natural yellow and red clay pigments, resulting in pieces that impress through their elegant simplicity.
